Teresa Gebhardt
Teresa is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, grief/loss and transitions. Her educational background is a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Masters of Science in Counseling from Northern Illinois University. Teresa is fluent in English and German and provides therapeutic support in both.
Teresa believes in an integrated approach to counseling and tailors her use of theoretical methodologies to the individual needs of her clients. Individualized design and theoretical flexibility allow her to supplement her person-centered approach from Existential, CBT, DBT, Interpersonal, Strengths-based and Trauma-informed practices to help support her clients.
A belief in empowerment, non-judgmental support, education, and linking barriers to growth with strategies to overcome them, are hallmarks of her work with clients from all walks of life. Foundational to the success of this work she does in collaboration with her clients, is the strength and safety of the therapeutic relationship which her philosophy embodies as the pivotal ingredient to success in growth and change.
Alongside of her work in private practice Teresa also works at a high school as School Counselor. In her free time she reads, travels abroad, immerses herself in various forms of art, and hikes with her pup - Brownie.
